About Us
Our Beginnings
The roots of Fuji Merchandise can be found in the lacquerware manufacturing business run by the founder's father, Kakujiro. Kakujiro carefully crafted each piece of lacquerware 365 days a year, from morning to night. The founder, Ishikawa Masaru, grew up watching this and, seeing the beautiful and carefully crafted products every day, began to think that "it would be a waste to keep this wonderful technology only in Japan." With the aim of spreading Japan's traditional products and techniques to the world and establishing the position of Japanese industry, he launched a trading business in Yokohama in 1974 , and this was the beginning of Fuji Merchandise Co., Ltd.
Growth Path
The small steps taken by our founder, Masaru Ishikawa, have grown into a company beloved by customers both in Japan and overseas, and we have expanded to do business with over 20 countries. We have also had a local subsidiary in the United States for over 45 years. The experience and connections we have cultivated over this long history are our pride and our foundation. Along the way, we have had the support of many staff members, business partners who have cooperated with us, and customers who have continued to support us warmly. At times, our customers have given us advice on products and management, and with this support, Fuji Merchandise has steadily built up a history spanning over 50 years.
Present and Future
Currently, the second-generation female president has inherited that spirit and is leading the company with a spirit of challenge that continues to challenge itself. She listens to the voices of each employee and, with the cooperation of vendors with whom she has built trust over the years, she shapes the new ideas that arise from them while respecting tradition. The attitude of this entire team to learn from the past and create new value is the very idea of "learning from the past to create new value."
Our Mission
Our mission is to leave universal values for the future, and to create a new style of hospitality that respects Japanese traditions and culture while adapting them to modern times, and to pass them on to the next generation.
In modern society, universal values are being lost. That is why we have a mission to pass on Japanese traditions and culture to the future and innovate them. Based on the culture of "omotenashi" that Japan is proud of, we aim to propose a new lifestyle and deliver new value to the future.
We at Fuji Merchandise will continue our journey to learn from the past and create the future. We appreciate your continued support.
